“It was unfortunate. It was kind of an exchange with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong finger,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in early 2024.
